The Portales school district will hold multiple summer school sessions for secondary students.
The first session is from June 9 to 20, a second session will be held June 23 to July 3 — the session for junior high students will be June 9 to July 3.
The sessions will be held at Portales High.
Summer school registration will be from 9 a.m. to noon through June 6.
The following are guidelines for 2003 summer school:
•Students who will be in the seventh, eighth or ninth grade for the 2003/2004 school year will be recommended for summer school based on their CTBS/CAT scores in language arts and mathematics.
•If a junior high student should fail two or more core subjects, they will be required to successfully complete summer school.
•High school students from Portales, Dora, Floyd and Elida may participate in summer school to regain credit for failed courses. Courses are offered in English, math, science and social studies.
•Two weeks of summer school will replace 1/2 credit of a failed course; Four weeks of summer school will replace 1 credit of a failed course. Students may earn up to two credits in remediation. There is no charge for Portales High School or Broad Horizons students who need to regain credit if the student qualifies for free or reduced lunches.
•Dora, Floyd and Elida high school students will be charged $50 per 1/2 credit.
•All regular school rules apply for all students.
•Violation of attendance procedure will result in dismissal from summer school and no refund will be issued.
