Imogene Atchley, 70
Imogene Atchley, 70, of Portales, died Saturday afternoon, July 26, 2003, at University Medical Center in Lubbock.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Billy Barton, 73
Mr. Billy J. Barton, 73, of Portales, a retired telephone lineman, died Friday, July 25, 2003, at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales.
He was born on Sept. 14, 1929, in Portales to Jewel and W.G. Barton.
He grew up in Portales. As a young man, he worked with his father in the family well drilling business. On Dec. 29, 1948, he married Margie Williams. In 1952, he was drafted into the Army, and served part of his service in Paris. After his discharge from the Army, he returned to Portales and began working for the telephone company. He was a lineman for 32 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Clovis, and had served in various offices. He also belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, and was a member of the Portales Country Club. Family members said he enjoyed collecting old coins and building model cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Grimes; and by his wife, Margie, who died Nov. 20, 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca (Roger) King of Lubbock; and two grandchildren, Brandon and Cameron King.
Memorial graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Portales Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Shorty Southern, Bill Baker, Olen Linton, Jack Dendy, Babe Morgan and Tim Marsh.

Wallace Cameron, 82
Mr. Wallace H. Cameron, 82, of Clovis, retired Air Force colonel, died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at his home.
He was born on Sept. 16, 1920, in Cameron, to Arthur W. and Laura E. Cameron.
He graduated from Grady School in 1938. In 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps.
He married Louise “Jackie” Griffin of Clovis.
He retired from the Air Force in 1971 and returned to Clovis.
In 1979, he married Cassie “Dean” Downey. He had been the Sunday school director at University Baptist Church in Portales and the vice president of the New Mexico Baptist Men. He served as a senior official in The Gideons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; three sisters; and his first wife.
Survivors include his wife, Cassie “Dean” of the home; two sons, Wallace L. (Deanna) of Lyons, Colo., and Ronald K. (Kris) of Twin Bridges, Mont.; one daughter-in-law, Nico Cameron of Portales; three stepdaughters, Patricia (David) Brand of Hobbs, Teresa (Don) Bolls of Niger, Africa, and Diane (Sidney) Barker of Emory, Texas; three stepsons, Alvin (Glenda) Downey of Friona, Dwain (Susie) Downey of House and David (Glenda) Downey of Clovis; one sister, Esther (Dixon) Kirby of Tucson, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Sandia Baptist Church in Clovis. Dr. Herbert Bergstrom and the Rev. Hoyt Welch will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Blair Cemetery at Wheatland, with full military honors by the Cannon Air Force Base Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Camp, W.Y. Mitchell Jr., Tommy Hohstadt, Allen Yates, Gary Northcutt and Jay James.
Memorials may be made to Gideons International.
