Elida School News

The kindergarten and first grade have been studying apples this past month. They learned many interesting facts about apples and have done several projects throughout the month.
The scholastic book fair has been going on all week at the elementary school.
The school would like to thank Elida Police Chief Ron Haley for donating sweatshirts printed “I Will Dress For Success” and “Elida Pride.” The shirts will be used for first time violators of the dress code. The second time the parents will be called.

Student Council
There was a Student Council election last week. Candidates hung posters around the halls and gave campaign speeches. Election date was Sept. 16.
The winners were: Ryan Dannelly, President; Thomas West, Vice-President; Wesley Gilmore, Secretary and Lindsey Smith for Treasurer.

Honor Society
Officers for the Honor Society for “03” and “04” are: Halee Best, President; Keisha Chenualt, Vice-President; Samantha Southard, Secretary; Shay Daugherty, Treasurer; Rebecca Banther, Parliamentarian; Renee Lopez and Judy Navarrete are Co-Historians. Other members are Shalie Anthony and Adrienne Coe. New Members will be inducted on Oct. 15. They are: Tori Bilberry, Auda Turner, Melissa Duran and Dylan Radcliff. The induction ceremony will be in the gym at 11:45 a.m. All parents and friends are welcome to attend.

The boys are not playing volleyball this year and are busy getting in shape for basketball.
The girls were in the Capitan Tournament over the last part of the week.

Future Farmers
of America
The Elida FFA chapter met Aug. 26 to elect officers, choose a fund raiser and set annual dues. Chapter officers for this year are Shay Daughtery, President; Halee Best, Vice-President, Keisha Chenault, Secretary; Audra Turner, Reporter; Adrienne Coe, Treasurer; Kelby Widner, Sentinel, and Shalie Anthony, Chaplin.
They chose to sell cookie dough as a fund raiser with a chapter goal of two hundred boxes. Chapter dues are $15 per member per year, payable prior to Nov. 18.
Congratulations are also in order for Adrienne Coe who won the 4-H reining as well as placing 7th in showmanship & 6th in trail.
A total of 18 students from Elida plan to show livestock at the Eastern New Mexico State Fair.
