James Hill, 72
Mr. James L. “Jim” Hill, 72, of Portales, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at Covenant Lakeside Hospital in Lubbock.
He was born on Dec. 25, 1930, in Kerns, Texas, to Mittie and Ernest Hill.
His professional career began in 1948 as an apprentice lineman with Roosevelt County Electric C ooperative (RCEC). After serving with several New Mexico Rural Electric Association Co-ops, his 42 year career culminated in 1991 when he retired from RCEC as operations manager. He and his wife owned and operated Don Diego’s Mexican Restaurant, J&J Industries equipment brokerage and Powerline, Inc. He founded and performed in several country and western dance bands including the New Mexico Playboys, Aggie Ramblers, Boot Hill Boys and Hill Country. He wrote countless songs and made over 28 recordings.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Janel of Portales; two sons, Johnny Ray Hill of Martinez, Ga. and John Wayne Hill (and wife, Susie) of Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters, Julie Ann Green of San Angelo, Texas and Debra Egan of Radford, Va.; three grandsons, John-Ashley Hill, Dustin Tyler Hill-Green and Colton James Hill; two sisters, Betty Ray (Melvin) of Portales and Bess Martin (Bob) of Lubbock; and two brothers, Don Hill (Marilyn) and Gene Hill (Betty Mae) all of Deming. 
Kenneth Broad and Scott Reeves will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Randy Mitchell, Jorge Najera, Alejandro Jimenez, Tracy Teal, Bobby Shiplett and Warren Ray will serve as pallbearers.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
Services are at 10 a.m. Monday at Central Christian Church in Portales.

Jimmie Ellison, 82
Mr. Jimmie J. Ellison, 82, of Portales, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales,
He was born on Nov. 2, 1920, in Erath County, Texas, to Myrtle and Albert E. Ellison.
His family moved to Portales in 1934. He graduated from Portales High School in 1940, where he was an outstanding athlete. After high school he went to work for the telephone company. In 1942, he joined the US Navy and served in the Sea Bees for 4 years. He married Oneida Roberts on Oct. 5, 1945. He retired from the telephone company in 1986 after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Third and Kilgore Congregation of the Church of Christ and the Portales Lion’s Club. Family members said for a number of years, he and several friends made annual fishing trips to Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arlie Ellison; and four sisters, Loreta Russell, Anthy Lane, ODeal Thompson and Maurice Jones.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary Ellison of Portales; a daughter, Jana Osborn (and husband, Wayne) of Lovington; four grandchildren, Stacee Bulman (Jon), Shalee and Shanna Osborn and Ira Ellison; a great-grandchild, Addison Osborn; a sister, Eva Gay Carter of Pampa, Texas; and two brothers, L.V. “Blacky” Ellison of Monahans, Texas and Bobby Jack Ellison of Galveston, Texas.
David Bennett and Johnny Lieb will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Donnie, Ronnie, Monte, Alan and Billy Roberts, Glen and Eddie Keith Morris and Jimmie Louis Ellison.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Third and Kilgore Church of Christ in Portales.
