Junior college transfer Kennis Green scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds Saturday night to lead Eastern New Mexico University men’s basketball team past the New Mexico All-Stars 106-58 in a preseason tuneup at Greyhound Arena.
The Greyhounds scored the first six points and led all the way. They broke open a 14-12 lead with a 10-0 run and went on to lead 48-27 at halftime.
Eleven of 12 ENMU players who saw action in the game scored. Edmound Elzy added 15 points, Garland Coleman scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Jamaal Hunnicutt chipped in 13 points and 11 boards and Brent Cooper scored 13 points.
Eastern dominated the boards 71-37 and held the All-Stars to just 29 percent field goal shooting, including only 5 of 37 from three-point range.
Anthony West scored 18 points for the All-Stars, and also led the team with seven rebounds and three assists.
Hernandez leads ENMU runners
COMMERCE, Texas — Redshirt freshman Ricardo Hernandez placed 25th for Eastern New Mexico University’s men in the South Central Region cross country meet on Saturday, hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce.
ENMU was unable to qualify anyone for national competition in two weeks at Cary, N.C. The men finished 14th out of 16 full teams, while the women were 15th out of 18 squads.
Hernandez had a time of 32 minutes, 48 seconds over the 10-kilometer course. Leading the way for the women’ team were junior Karissa Huskey, 43rd in 24:06 over 6K, and senior Leora Todacheenie, 46th in 24:09.67.
Abilene Christian won the men’s team title with 26 points, earning four of the top six individual finishes. Pittsburg State (Kan.) took the women’s team championship with 59 points.
