GARY HATCH
Services: 3:30 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Portales.
Mr. Gary Hatch, 54, of Portales, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, near Roswell.
He was born on Jan. 11, 1949, in Portales, to Frantelle and Gordon Hatch.
He grew up in Portales and graduated from Portales High School in 1967. He went on to attend classes at both Eastern New Mexico University and the University of New Mexico. He married Alicia Mooney on July 23, 1988. For a number of years he farmed south of Portales. In 1990 he established Enviro-Ag, which he owned and operated until his death. He was active in the local scouting program and was a Scout Leader for Troop No. 18. Family members said he did many things behind the scenes through the years to help children have the things he felt were important for their development. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Family members said he enjoyed camping and fishing.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Robbie Pippin; and his mother.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Garrett Hatch of Portales; his father; and a brother, James Hatch of Albuquerque.
The Rev. Harry Riser will officiate the services. Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chet Wyant, Greg Gossett, Johnny Burke, Tom “Wolfman” Summers, Morris Foster and Randy Carter.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Boy Scout Troop No. 18.

Javier Mendoza, 52
Javier Mendoza, 52, of Rio Rancho, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque.
He was born on Oct. 27, 1951, in San Ignacio, Mexico, to Maria and Jose Guadalupe Mendoza.
He settled in Portales around 1970. He married Sophia Lopez on April 12, 1975. For several years he was employed at the Jimmy Privett Hatchery. In 1980 he moved to Hutchinson, Kan., where he was employed by the railroad. In 1983 he returned to this area and was employed at Excel Meat Packers in Friona. In 1996 he moved to Albuquerque.
Family members said he enjoyed doing landscaping, enjoyed watching sports programs, had a great love for music and that family was important to him.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Raquel Pena and Lidia M. Duran; a niece, Celia M. Duran; and a nephew, Mario Ruiz.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Arthur Lopez (and wife, Melissa), Felix Lopez (Jennifer) and Christopher Lopez (Annette), all of Clovis and Larry Mendoza and Anthony Mendoza, both of Hutchinson, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; his parents; a brother, Francisco Mendoza of Hutchinson, Kan.; six sisters, Celia Hernandez and Rosa Loya, both of Portales, Elena Mendoza and Elva Sanchez, both of Hutchinson, Kan., Martha Ruiz of Portales and Laura Mendoza of Wichita, Kan.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Faith Triumphant Church in Portales.
The Rev. Abel Loya will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Cass, Gus Hernandez, Enrique de la Cruz, Abel Loya, Joel Duran and Gabriel Lopez.
Honorary pallbearers will be Celia Hernandez, Rosa Loya, Elena Mendoza, Elva Sanchez, Martha Ruiz and Laura Mendoza.

Emma Luke, 85
Mrs. Emma E. Luke, 85, of Portales, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at her home.
She was born on Dec. 9, 1917, on her grandmother’s ranch in Niobrara County, Wyo., on the Cheyenne River.
When she was a young child, her family moved to the Denver area. As a teenager, she moved to Albuquerque where she remained until May of 2000 when she moved to Portales. She married Leon Luke on April 13, 1940. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Albuquerque. For several years they made their home at Jemez Springs where she was active in the Jemez Baptist Indian Mission. Family members said church was the most important thing in her life and she loved people, and made friends wherever she went.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Marvin Clark.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Robert Luke of Albuquerque; three daughters, Wanda Palmer of Largo, Fla., Deborah Eben (and husband, Dennis) of Littleton, Colo., and Lora Wood (Jerry) of Portales; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three brothers, James Clark and Clyde Miller, both of Albuquerque, and Alvin Miller of Trophy Club, Texas.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales.

Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Don and Dale Eben, Matt and Marc Wood and Austin and Marques Luke.
Honorary pallbearers will be her care givers, Meredith Cleavinger and Suzy Gephart.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home in Portales.
