Both Portales teams split a pair of home matches Saturday, moving them to 3-2 on the season.
The Ram boys defeated Amarillo Caprock 7-2 in their opener, but dropped a 9-0 decision in the second match against defending Class 1A-3A champion Las Vegas Robertson.
The Portales girls, meanwhile, defeated Robertson 8-1 and lost a 7-2 series against Caprock.
Kaycee Quick went 4-0 for the girls, winning her two No. 5 singles matches and her two No. 3 doubles matches with partner Cassandra Short. Short played in the place of Bethany Self, who sprained an ankle earlier in the week.
Portales was aided in the match against Robertson as Jennifer Keiner dropped out with an injury and defaulted her No. 1 singles match to Hailey Quick. Quick and Rachelle Self took an 8-0 win in No. 1 doubles against Kristin Guerin and Raven Romero, Keiner’s replacement.
Bryan Yeast lost both of his matches in No. 1 singles, but had the unfortunate task of playing 3A’s top-ranked player in Mario Fulgenzi and one of Texas’ top-ranked players in Josh Rollins.
