Rams sweep Clovis in tennis

CLOVIS — The Portales tennis teams each took care of business Tuesday against Clovis, upping their season records to 8-2 for each side.
The Portales boys won by a 7-2 count, while the girls took a 6-3 win in Tuesday’s match. Portales returns to play this weekend in Roswell, then takes two weeks off before hosting Artesia April 6.
Portales’ players in No. 3 through No. 6 singles all claimed victories, paced by Chris Kirchner’s 6-3, 6-1 win over Adam Quintero in No. 3 singles. Logan Brown and Chase Acker also won their singles matches.
The Rams swept the three doubles flights, as Kirchner and Bryan Yeast paired up for a 7-5, 6-2 win over Justin Brummitt and Quintero in No. 1 doubles.
In the girls match, Portales won four of the singles flights and two of the doubles flights. Patricia Gallegos and Andrea Curry factored in all three wins for Clovis, as they each won their singles matches against Hailey Quick and Rachelle Self, then teamed up to beat Quick and Self in No. 1 doubles.
Morgan Erf, Jessica Bulls, Kaycee Quick and Bethany Self all won both of their matches.
