Ralph Murray Helms, 81, of Wynnewood, Okla., died Saturday, March 20, 2004, at Pauls Valley General Hospital in Pauls Valley, Okla.
He was born on Jan. 27, 1923, in Minco, Okla., to Benjamin Harrison and Elma Mae Jones Helms.
He was salutatorian of his high school graduating class in Union City, Okla. After graduation he joined the Navy where he served on the U.S.S. Edgar C. Chase, a destroyer escort, which patrolled the coast of North Africa and England during World War II. He married Ollie Little on Jan. 13, 1945, in Oklahoma City. He moved to Pauls Valley in 1946. He moved to the Wynnewood area in 2000. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Elmore City, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Iva May Brady and Opal Irene Helms.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sharon Campbell (and husband, Gary) of Wynnewood and Karen McIntosh (Gary) of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Rachel McIntosh of Amarillo; a sister, Oleta Hays (C.H.) of Portales; and a brother, Ben Helms (Jo Rheta) of Sumner, Wash.
Bruce McCray and the Rev. Lin Jones will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood.
