May 12 Dora News

By Charlie Carmichael

Sunday was a beautiful day for everyone celebrating Mother’s Day — even those spending the day inside.
There were some mothers visiting families in Dora and Dora Mothers traveling around visiting their “younguns” and families.
Ivy Allison was out from Portales visiting with her daughter, Laqueda Chavez and family, and came with them to our worship service at the Dora Baptist Church.
Kathleene Taylor had her mother and grandmother out visiting her and two sons and come to worship with us. She is our church pianist. Her husband works for the Railroad in Clovis and can only come to our services when he has a Sunday off.
There were other visitors Sunday and I regret I didn’t get all their names. Come worship with us again.

One of our Dora women who teaches in James School in Portales has been named as Wal-Mart Teacher of the year recently. She is Joeli Cathey and is married to our “wild Bill”, the cowboy trick rope artist of Dora. They have a son, T.J., who attends ENMU. They have Zack, Amber and Autumn still at home.
Joeli teaches special education to second and third-graders. However, the award is for her teaching in general, not just in her special field. She will also receive a monetary award and will now be entered to compete for the state title. Best wishes to you Joeli.

Special Prayers
Nancy Tivis of Portales was entered into a hospital in Oklahoma City late on the Monday evening for a liver transplant. They finally had one right for her if all tests went well. Keep her on your prayer list as she will need all our prayers as she recovers.

The Elementary Track meet was rescheduled from May 5th to this Thursday. Come support our elementary students.
