Portales finance committee members approved applications from the Community Services Center for two new 15-passenger vans at the finance committee meeting on Tuesday.
City Manager Debi Lee said she spoke with Community Services Center Executive Director Pamela O’Malley on trying to fit the funds needed to match the federal grants from the $49,500 budgeted for the Community Services Center.
Finance committee members approved the applications for 2005/2006 grants. The federal grant would provide $28,209 of federal money and the CSC would have to come up with $7,052.40 for the first 15-passenger van. For the second 15-passenger van, there would be $25,083.20 from federal money and the CSC would have to come up with $6,270.80.
“We (Lee and O’Malley) had talked about how we didn’t have the additional money in the city budget,” Lee said. “She said she could stay within the budget. She said she could reduce operating budget and she’ll make it work with the $49,500.”
Public Works Director Tom Howell also updated the finance committee on the street projects in Roosevelt County and Portales. The first part of the project is for curb, gutter and sidewalk improvements on the north side of town.
“We have $2,000 left over from working on the north side,” Howell said. “The next part will be the Abilene and Globe area, between 4th and 18th.”
Lee said there will be discussions with members of the Lodger’s tax committee to discuss the proposal of the contract for the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce. Lee said the final budget will be presented to the city council for the July 20 meeting.
