Vixens sweep Elida — Fort Sumner took over sole possesion of the District 3-1A lead Thursday night with a 25-16, 25-14, 25-4 victory at home over Elida.
The Lady Tigers hung with the Vixens (11-3, 4-0 district) fairly well for two games before falling off badly. Elida (11-4, 3-1) played without senior hitter Adrienne Coe, who was at the Eastern New Mexico Fair in Roswell.
“They’re extremely athletic and they play well together,” Elida coach Darrell Chenault said of the Vixens. “We didn’t play that badly in the first two games, except our serving wasn’t quite what it needed to be.”
Fort Sumner won the junior high preliminary 25-13, 25-14, while Elida came away a winner in the junior high contest 11-25, 25-18, 15-12.
Dora falls in five — Dora’s rally fell short and the Lady Coyotes were beaten by visiting Melrose 26-24, 25-19, 20-25, 23-25, 15-10 in District 3-1A play on Thursday night.
Dora fell to 5-7 (2-3 district) with the loss.
“We played well,” Lady Coyotes coach Myra Skinner said. “We just didn’t get it in the win column.”
Dora took the JV match 25-14, 25-13, while Melrose captured the junior high tilt 25-22, 25-19.
