Susan Ashmore, 59
Susan Elizabeth Wenzel Ashmore, 59, of Morehead, Ky., died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.
She was born on July 16, 1945, in Superior, Wis., to John and Evelyn Tan Wenzel of Esko, Minn.
She was a 1963 graduate of Lincoln High School in Esko and a 1967 graduate of the University of Minnesota. She worked with student publications at Eastern New Mexico University more than 25 years and was a member of the American Association of University Women and Eastern New Mexico University Women. She was also involved in KENW-TV (PBS), arts, music and drama. She participated in the Portales High School Parent Teacher Organization, band boosters, a university-based gourmet club and was editor of “Hookup,” a publication of the Morehead Area Habitat for Humanity, for about five years.
Survivors include her husband, Timothy M. Ashmore; a daughter, Alison Thompson of Norman, Okla.; a brother, Richard Wenzel of Allensville, Ky.; a sister, Rosemary Wenzel West of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren, Andrew and Elizabeth Thompson.
Services have already been held. Memorial contributions may be made to the Faculty Women at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales.

J.C. White, 81
J.C. “Jake” White, 81, of Tucumcari, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, in Amarillo.
He was born on July 19, 1923, in Miami, Ariz., to Sid and Maggie Barnard White.
He served in the U.S. Army Calvary during World War II in the Philippines and was honorably discharged. He lived in the Tucumcari area most of his life working as a farmer and general building contractor. Family members said he was well-known for his passion for coon hunting and training hounds and border collies. He belonged to the Baptist church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Carpenter White; two daughters, Sandra and Shirley; a son, Jerry; a grandson, Jerry Shane; and his second wife, Helen Stratton.
Survivors include two sons, Joe (and wife, Doranna) and Jerald (Paula), all of Tucumcari; a daughter-in-law, Jo Juan White of Clovis; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; three brothers, Bob (Stella) and Jack (Betty), all of Tucumcari, and Glen (Lou) of Mosquero; and a sister, Nelda Seals (James) of Rome, Texas.
Service are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Baptist Church, 823 South First Street, in Tucumcari. Fred Caton will officiate the services.
A dinner will follow.
