Nov. 3 Dora/South County News

By Charlie Carmichael

November arrived with chill and breeze this morning. The temperature dropped yesterday but stayed mild enough for trick or treaters to have their fun in the early evening. Yes, there are still a few treaters in the area, however some of the parents took their kids to town and some came to the “Celebration of Life” at the Dora Baptist Church from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday evening. They all had a really enjoyable evening.

Annual Event
The Milnesand community residents are preparing for their usual Thanksgiving gathering and feast on Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m. This will be in the Milnesand Community Center. The meat will be provided there and others are asked to bring vegetables, salad and desserts to compliment the occasion. Everyone is welcomed to come join in the festivities and visitation.

Crops
Farmers are still taking advantage of every moment to get the peanuts thrashed and hauled in before it comes more rain or a snow. They are really turning out good this year. The cotton gets whiter and looks as if it will be as good a turnout as the peanuts.

Funeral services
There will be services here for Laverne Thetford’s nephew on Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary. He was the son of the former Pauline Ross of Rogers. She was a sister of Laverne and Latrell. He will be buried in the Portales cemetery.
Our sympathy to those near and dear to him who will miss him greatly.

Youth day
Sunday was youth day at the Dora Baptist Church. Austin Prewett did a good job leading the music in the morning service, Marilyn Prewett played the piano, several gave testimonies, Amber Cathey did children’s church, bible story and Ben Massey gave a good sermon. It’s great to see our teens taking responsibility so young. It sure gives us strength in faith for the future.
Then they all pretty well took over the “Celebration of Life” in the evening — right up to the cleaning tables and washing dishes.

Charlie Sez
We have great “kids” in this whole area in the Causey, Milnesand and Dora Baptist and Churches of Christ. May we ever support them and guide them to be good citizens of the future.
