HEREFORD, Texas — Senior Luis McCain scored 24 points, including four 3-pointers, and the Faith Triumphant boys basketball team opened its season Friday with a 59-38 victory over Hereford Community Christian.
Four players combined to do all the scoring for the Conquerors. Others in double figures were Seth Pearson with 16 and Eric Cathey with 13.
Faith Triumphant opened a 29-9 halftime lead over the Warriors and cruised the rest of the way. Nathan Louder scored 15 points for Hereford Community Christian.
The home team won a junior varsity contest 19-13.
The FTCS girls were also victorious to open their season, holding off the Lady Warriors 32-20 after storming to a 26-2 halftime lead.
The Lady Conquerors played with just six players, with one girl away on a trip and another sidelined with a knee injury. They finished with five after one girl fouled out in the second half.
Eighth grader Jessica McCain led Faith Triumphant with 14 points, while seventh grader Reshea Kelley added 8.
“I guess we got tired in the second half,” FTCS coach Jessica Roberts said. “It’s a good start to the season because it’s a win. I was pretty impressed with the way the girls played in the first half.”
