Dixie Aday, 79
Mrs. Dixie Jean Aday, 79, of Portales, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
She was born on May 17, 1925, in Hollis, Okla., to Bessie and Claude E. Gamble.
She moved to Clovis in 1925, when she was a few months old. She graduated from Clovis High School in 1943, and was named Miss Curry County that same year. She studied for a year at North Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas. She married Bennie J. Aday on June 7, 1944, in Elida. While her husband was stationed overseas, she worked at Citizen’s Bank in Clovis. In 1947 they moved to Portales. For several years she and her husband owned the Highway 70 Restaurant. In the early 1970s she went to work at the Gal’s Clothing Store on the square. Family members said she was a wonderful seamstress, enjoyed walking and playing bridge. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Cora Mae O’Neal.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Dr. B. Joe Aday Jr. (and wife, Debra) of Las Cruces, Dr. Brent Aday (Sharon) of Alamogordo, Dr. J. Brad Aday (Ouida) of Las Cruces; two daughters, Donna Akin (Howard) of Dallas, and Dinah Daughtridge (Stuart) of Huntingtown, Md.; 14 grandchildren; a brother, Claude Gamble of Cottonwood, Ariz.; and a sister, Rozelle Boucher of Destin, Fla.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ in Portales. Marlin Poynor and Kenneth Broad will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Curtis, Gregg, Lisa, Lindsay, Brian, Jordan, and Brandon Aday, Aryn, Allye, Abby, and Trace Akin, and Kelly, Morgan and Grant Daughtridge.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Jessie Cathey, 94
Mrs. Jessie May Cathey, 94, of Pep, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
She was born on Feb. 11, 1910, near Gilmer, Texas, to Emma and James A. Bryce.
She grew up at Antlers, Okla. The family later moved to Dalhart, Texas. She married N.C. “Nolan” Cathey on July 25, 1930, in Clayton. They lived in Dalhart for a short time before moving to O’Bar in New Mexico. Several years later they moved to Albuquerque. They moved several more times before settling in Pep in 1953, where they owned and operated the grocery and feed store along with a gas station. In 1954 she was appointed Postmaster for Pep and served until 1975 when she retired. In 1978, they moved to Fort Worth, Texas. In 1984 they returned to Portales to make their home. She had been a resident at the Retirement Ranch in Clovis since 1998. She was a member of the Trinity Life Center, formerly known as First Assembly of God Church in Portales.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Clell, Sidney, James, and Franklin Bryce; a sister, Corda Fay Ritchey; a son, N.C. Cathey Jr.; and by her husband.
Survivors include three sons, Bobby Cathey (and wife, Buna) of Pep, Wendell Cathey (Maggie) of Hobbs, and James Cathey (Thyra) of Portales; a daughter, May Ruth Caddell (Daniel) of Portales; 14 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Family Center in Portales. The Rev. Jim Maxwell will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Billy, Dusty, Brian, Donny, Mitchell, and T.J. Cathey.

Mabel Webb, 95
Mabel Helen Johnson Webb, 95, of Clovis, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Laural Ridge Healthcare in Clovis.
She was born on Sept. 15, 1909, in Plankenton, S.D., to Hans and Maud West Johnson.
She married Creed Webb on Oct. 11, 1924, in Farwell. She grew up in the Claud community and then moved to Pleasant Hill where they farmed and ranched.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.
Survivors include two sons, Odell Webb (and wife, Betty) of Prineville, Ore. and Leon Webb (Sharon) of Longview, Texas; a daughter, Ilene Cash of Belen; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at The Chapel, 1500 Thornton in Clovis. The Rev. Joel Horne will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.
Pallbearers are members of her family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Childrens Home, 1356 Highway 236, Portales 88130.
Visitation is scheduled from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday at Muffley Funeral Home in Clovis.
The family will accept visitors from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Muffley Funeral Home in Clovis.
