Floyd posts sweep over San Jon

SAN JON — Facing a 12-point halftime deficit, senior Manny Carrillo and the Floyd Broncos came storming back when play resumed.
Carrillo scored all 24 of his points, including six 3-pointers, as Floyd poured in 56 points in the final two stanzas for a 76-67 win over San Jon Tuesday night.
Carrillo’s 3-pointer pulled the Broncos even 47-47 as the third quarter came to a close.
“It kind of looked like the Gateway (Christian) football game,” said Broncos coach Jeff Gillespie, referring to a first-round six-man football playoff game in which Floyd erased a 14-8 halftime deficit with 55 second-half points. “We put a lot more pressure on the ball in the second half.”
Jerrod Long added two 3-pointers and 13 points for the Broncos, while seven others contributed to the scoring column.
Trey Rusk took game honors with 27 points for the Coyotes, and Jarrod Arc huleta added 16 points.

Floyd girls win — The Lady Broncos used 27 points from junior Kelli Johnson and a pair of big quarters to storm to a 70-41 victory over San Jon.
Trailing 12-6, Floyd outscored San Jon 25-8 in the second period before finishing off the Lady Coyotes with a 26-point eruption in the final stanza.
Senior Noel Carpenter added 17 points for Floyd. Freshman Nicole Martinez scored 11 points and junior Ja Tawn Slutz chipped in 10 for San Jon.

Dora boys prevail — Junior Tyler Wilhoit scored 22 points to lift the Coyotes (2-1) to a homecourt win over Eunice.
Dora, playing its second home game in two nights, also got 15 points from junior Brent Hays. The Coyotes made good use of the free throw line by hitting 20-of-27 for the game, including 7-of-7 for Hays.
The Cardinals were led by 17 points from Chad Cole, including five 3-pointers. Ranson Fisher (14) and Jorge Franco (12) also reached double figures for Eunice.

Lubbock All Saints tops FTCS girls — Faith Triumphant’s girls, playing a junior varsity schedule with three high school and five junior high players, dropped to 1-2 for the season on tuesday with a 62-32 loss at Lubbock All Saints.
Jessica McCain scored 16 points for the Lady Conquerors, while Cassie Paden added 10.
