La Casa aids county families

La Casa De Buena Salud in Portales provided Roosevelt County families with over 40 meals for their Thanksgiving this year, according to La Casa De Buena Salud officials.
La Casa de Buena Salud Health Center employees raised funds to provide dinner for needy families. Seferino Montano, chief executive officer at La Casa De Buena Salud, said they have been giving out food baskets for the last two years.
Montano said the idea came about through Pilar Moreno, La Casa Outreach Coordinator. He said she undertook the project to help out needy families in the community.
“Our employees have worked hard to raise money and bring food items for the program,” Montano said. “Some of the employees solicited money from businesses. It’s an intense effort. We help out as many people as we can.”
Montano said Moreno keeps information on the needy families which are in need of meals.
“Our generous employees raised and donated money, the Portales Girl Scout troop collected canned goods and numerous local businesses gave cash donations including Village Pharmacy, C&S Oil, Factory Direct Furniture and Danny Heflin Builders,” Moreno said in a press release.
The contributions and monetary gifts were used to supply fixings for the Thanksgiving dinners.
“It’s a great way to ensure that our impoverished families will be able to celebrate and enjoy their Thanksgiving holiday,” Jeanette Chavez, marketing director for La Casa De Buena Salud, said in a press release.
Montano said they provide health care to many of the same people who are in need. He said La Casa De Buena Salud will also put together a project through fund-raising and donations for Christmas. They will use the donations to provide people in need of assistance with clothes and toys.
