It’s hard to believe January comes to an end Monday, with one month of 2005 passed. Wonder how many teachers and students have already broken new resolutions, as well as grandparents and parents. After all we are all human, but each of us can strive daily to help our students realize that if at first we don’t succeed, it is no reason to quit.
The Dora junior high students made a trip on Wednesday to Carlsbad Caverns for a day of sightseeing, education and fun. I well remember in 1938 when I was a senior in Roby, Texas and what a thrill it was for us.

Mr. Kenneth Shaw, formerly of Dora passed away Jan. 23. He had been working a few days in Florida at the time of his death. He was a good principal here and had a special interest in the students. He was in Dora three years before going to Roy School as Superintendent where he had graduated in 1965. He retired in 2001 after spending more than 30 years in schools in New Mexico. His wife, Maxine lives in Portales where they moved upon his retirement. He is survived by a son, Kenneth of Portales and two daughters, Natasha of Petersburg and Amber of Portales. Our sympathy to the family and friends. He was buried in Roy following services at St. Helen’s Catholic Church.
