Peggy Baird, 78
Services: Have been held.
Peggy J. Baird, 78, of Raton, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005.
She was born Oct. 23, 1926, in Mount Dora, to Lloyd Joseph and Grace G. Taylor Wilkins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Richard Gordon Baird.
Survivors include a daughter, Donne Hilliard (and husband, Kent) of Portales; two sons, Richard G. Baird III (Myra) and Robert Scott Baird, all of Raton; three brothers, Lloyd Wilkins Jr. (Jan) and Worth Wilkins (Molly), all of Raton, and F.D. Wilkins of Boulder, Colo.; and four grandchildren, Collin and Lee Hilliard, and Cam and Ginger Baird.
Jerry Valenzuela officiated the services.
Burial was at Fairmont Cemetery in Raton.
Arrangements were by Yaksich-Long Funeral Home of Raton.

Charles Lucero, 44
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales.
Mr. Charles Lucero, 44, of Portales, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at his home.
He was born on Nov. 3, 1960, in Las Vegas, N.M., to Dora and Andres Lucero.
He grew up in Las Vegas, N.M., where he attended school. He moved to Lubbock where he worked as a welder and truck driver. After he was married, the family moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., where he worked for Neo Plant for several years. He worked for Curtis and Curtis Seed Co. before moving to Portales, where he worked in construction. Family members said he enjoyed making wooden plaques, playing racquetball and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Dora Wall and Leopoldo Martinez of Portales; his former wife, Cindy Gallegos of Albuquerque; a son, Carlos Lucero of Albuquerque; a daughter, Tina Lucero of Albuquerque; a brother, Steve Lucero (and wife, Mary) of Clovis; and two sisters, Becky Sena (David) and Isabel Rodriguez (Johnny), all of Portales.
The Rev. Tobin Hitt will officiate the services.
A rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales.
Honorary pallbearers are family members and friends.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Lucy Polk, 93
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at University Baptist Church in Portales.
Mrs. Lucy O. Polk, 93, of Portales, died Friday, May 6, 2005, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
She was born June 17, 1911, in Youngsport, Texas, to Minnie and John Arnold.
In 1925, she moved with her family by covered wagon to Post, Texas. Her family then moved to Ben Bolt, Texas, where she continued in school and graduated as valedictorian in 1929. She married Bunyan G. Polk on Oct. 11, 1930, in Alice, Texas. They moved to Greer in 1944. She worked 17 years for Selected Casings in Portales. They moved into town in 1969. Family members said she enjoyed cooking, sewing, collecting recipes, gardening and canning. She was a member of University Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Milton Reed; a sister, Ozella Pierce; and her husband.
Survivors include three sons, Cecil Polk (and wife, Lois) of Arlington, Wash., Lloyd Polk (Yvonne) of Artesia, and Shelby Polk (Zada) of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a daughter, Wadene Brown (Gerald) of Clovis; nine grandchildren: Gary Polk (Maureen), Mel Polk, Noel Baier (Steve), Billy Polk (Cindy), Alan Polk (Laura), Tina Tidenberg (Jim), Dale Polk (Regi), Jerri Darnell (Jim) and Clint Polk (Collette); and 17 great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Steve Smith will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jim Darnell, Jim, Josh and Jared Tidenberg, and Billy and Dustin Polk.
Honorary pallbearers are Gary, Mel, Alan, Dale and Clint Polk.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Violet Terry, 99
Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel in Dallas.
Mrs. Violet Opal Terry, 99, of Dora, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at her home.
She was born on Aug. 25, 1905, in Ellis County, Texas, to Laura and Harvey Johnson.
She and her husband owned and operated Terry’s Grocery in Dallas from 1930 to 1945. They moved to eastern New Mexico in 1946 and began ranching.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lillie Mae Breazeale and Ester Ferrell; a son, Ben Weatherall Jr.; and her husband, Arthur “Reg” Terry.
Survivors include a son, Arthur R. Terry of Dora; a grandson, Ben M. Weatherall III of Denton, Texas; a sister-in-law, Doris P. Weatherall of De Soto, Texas; six nieces, Tillie Johnson, Sue Harrison, Sylvia Wilson, Helen Ferguson, Sharon Caro and Lucia Wheat; two nephews, Butch and Michael Green; and a host of other family members.
Jim Hart will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas.
Pallbearers are Robert and Michael Green, Jeremy and Jason Wheat, and Willie and Van Wilson.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Franz Wilson, 65
Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Full Gospel Tabernacle in Truth or Consequences.
Franz Harvey Wilson, 65, of Caballo, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque.
He was born on Jan. 29, 1940, in Longdale, Okla., to Buck Lowe and Josie Bell Chaloupek Wilson.
He earned an associate degree in wastewater management. He was a resident of the Caballo area for the past 12 years, and was a former water and wastewater supervisor for the City of Truth or Consequences. He was active with the Boy Scouts and was a scout master and troop leader for Boy Scouts Troop No. 333.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Survivors include his wife, Judy C. Wilson; three sons, Brent Wilson (and wife, Deborah) of Albuquerque, Kevin Wilson of Clovis and Grant Wilson (and wife, Shauna) of Tucumcari; his father; three step-children, Jerry Autrey of Truth or Consequences, Tim Crosswhite of Lubbock and Jinah Sanders (Darren) of Nogal; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Dr. Buck R. Wilson (Roberta) of Portales; two sisters, Dorothy Jo Meaders of Roswell and Faye Foley of Portales.
Visitation is scheduled from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. today at the chapel of Kirikos Family Funeral Home in Truth or Consequences.
The Rev. Mike Skidmore will officiate the services.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Brent, Kevin and Grant Wilson, Darren Sanders, Bo Easley, Zac Dwyer and Jerry Autrey.
Brent Wilson Jr. is an honorary pallbearer.
