ALBUQUERQUE — Senior Noel Carpenter placed in three individual events and helped Floyd score in two relays as the Lady Broncos compiled 37 points to finish fourth in team standings in the Class 1A state track meet on Friday and Saturday at the University of New Mexico track.
Cimarron ran away with team honors, scoring 104 1/3 points to 81 for defending champion Fort Sumner. Jal finished third with 61 points.
Carpenter placed second in triple jump at 33-6 1/2 on Friday, finishing 11 inches behind Fort Sumner’s Kelly Fortner. On Saturday, she placed third in the 300 hurdles in 38.86 seconds and was fourth in the 800 in 2:28.44.
The Lady Broncos, meantime, got a second-place finish in the 800 relay in 1:53.99, came in third in the 1,600 relay in 4:21.95, placed fourth in the 400 relay in 54.79 and finished sixth in the 1,600 medley relay in 4:54.37.
Junior Kelli Johnson earned six points in the meet for Floyd, coming in third in Saturday’s 3,200 with a time of 12:55.75 and placing fifth in Friday’s 1,600 in 6:02.37.
Also in girls competition, senior D’Shawn Pettigrew gave Dora two team points with a fifth-place finish in long jump on Saturday at 15-0 1/2.
The only points scored by the area in boys 1A competition came from Floyd’s Jonathan Mitchell, who finished fifth in the 800 on Saturday with a time of 2:08.2.
