Four candidates file for elections
Four people have declared their candidacy for two open positions on the Roosevelt County General Hospital Board for four year terms in District 1 and District 2.

Lydia Ornelas was the only person who declared candidacy for District 1. Terry Cone, Margaret Davis and Linda Baca declared their intentions to fill the District 2 position.
However, write-in candidates can still enter the race by Oct. 4.

District 1 is from North Avenue O east to North Kilgore and from West Fir Street and East Third Street north to the Portales city limits.

District 2 is from South Avenue C east to South Kilgore and from East Third Street south to 18th Street in the Portales city limits.

Voter registration closes at 5 p.m. on Oct. 11 and can be done at the Roosevelt County Courthouse. Boyd Evans currently represents District 3, Fred Anthony serves District 4 and Darwin Chenault represents District 5. The first day for early/absentee voting is Oct. 14 and the election day is Nov. 8.

Residents can help relief
Roosevelt County people interested in donating household items in good condition towards the High Plains Yard Sale to raise money for victims of the hurricane can take their items to the Curry County Fairgrounds or Roosevelt County Fairgrounds pavilion.

People taking their donations to the Curry County Fairgrounds can do so from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday or from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 30. People can also take their donations to the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday.

Victim’s Garden to be dedicated
The Victim’s Memorial Garden will be dedicated Friday at 10 a.m. The garden is located at the southwest corner of the Roosevelt Courthouse and honors victims of violence.
