Child who fell still in intensive care

Staff report

A 10-month-old Portales boy was still in intensive care in a Lubbock, Texas hospital Wednesday after he took a fall early Tuesday afternoon.

Dominic Roy fell 9 1/2 feet from a balcony onto a sidewalk at his family’s residence at 620 Ave. E in Portales. He is the son of Jeremy and Kristen Roy of Portales.

According to the child’s grandmother, Cinda Barringer, Dominic was still in intensive care and doing better but doctors were still watching his condition closely.

“Right now the baby is still in ICU with a blood clot on the brain and a fractured skull,” said Barringer. “He’s coherent and responds well to family members. He’s definitely a tough little guy.”

According to Portales Police Capt. Lonnie Berry, his department is still awaiting more information from medical authorities before he closes the report. That information was delayed, according to Berry, until the child’s condition had stabilized.

Berry said he had been kept abreast of the child’s condition and would likely send an officer to Lubbock today to complete the report.

A call to Protective Services with the Portales office of the Children Youth and Family Department had not been returned as of press time Wednesday.
