Local accountant Terry Cone retained his seat in a three-way race for a spot on the Roosevelt Hospital board Tuesday.
Four candidates ran for two spots in Tuesday’s hospital board elections. Cone, Margaret Davis and Linda Baca ran in District 2, while Lydia Ornelas ran unopposed in District 1.
Cone earned his third five-year term with the electoral victory with 89 votes. Davis received 74 votes and Baca 12.
“You never know,” Cone said. “I appreciate everyone who got out and voted.”
Cone said that as always, the goal would be to improve the quality and quantity of physicians and medical equipment at the hospital.
“We want to concentrate on general practitioners, pediatricians (and urologists),” Cone said, “and expand our MRI equipment to the point where we’re 24-7. Hopefully, that’s a close reality.”
The districts are aligned in the same manner as the districts for county commission spots.
Ornelas received five votes in District 1, which is the only district entirely inside the city limits of Portales. Ornelas listed no home number on her filing papers when seeking the seat. Calls made to her workplace and to family members Tuesday were not returned.
