Nell Miller
Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales.

Nell Miller, 80, of Portales, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, at her residence in Portales.

She was born Sept. 8, 1925, in Silverton, Texas, to Edna and Bill Miller.

She grew up in Silverton where she attended school. She then moved to Pitchfork where she worked as a bus driver. She lived in various places working with pipeliners and also owned and operated several restaurants throughout the Southwest.

Family members said she was a loving woman who enjoyed tending to her yard, feeding birds and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lawrence B. Miller; and by a son, Leonard Westerman.

Survivors include Dan Price of Portales; son, Bill Westerman (Lynn) of Wingate, Texas; daughter, Louise McGee of Portales; five grandchildren, Cindy Wallace, Mary Jarad, Sonja Faye Murphy, Lorrie Westerman and Leonard Hobbs; several great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Billie Howard of Hamilton, Ohio, and Winnie Williams of Layton, Utah.

James Terry will officiate.

Burial will take place at Texico Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Boyd Sides, Winkie Hodges, Harold Willis, Willie Beggs, Levi Beggs and Bill Welch.

Honorary pallbearers are Jackie Grimes, Hector “Fly” Ortega and Malcolm Grubbs.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Jane Kent
Services: 2 p.m. (CST) Wednesday at Blackwell Funeral Home Chapel in Friona.

Jane Kent, 68, of Portales, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.

She was born Dec. 22, 1936, in Henrietta, Texas, to Weldon B. and Willie Bea Fulgham. She had lived in Portales since May of 2005, moving from Logan. She was married to W.H. Kent for 23 years. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her sons, Wade Kent (and wife Lisa) of Portales and Kade Kent (Rachel) of Midland, Texas; a sister, Jo Ann Thomas of Clovis; brother, Jack Fulgham of Bowling Green, Ky.; and six grandchildren, Shaina, Weston, and Anna-Leigh of Portales and Rhett, Levi, and Keller of Midland, Texas.

Rev. Steve Patterson is officiating.

Burial will be in the Friona Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Blackwell Funeral Home of Friona, Texas.

Aurora Lucero
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Portales.

Aurora Lucero, 89, of Portales, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.

She was born April 18, 1916, in Villanueva to Abelina and Camilo Lucero.

She grew up in Anton Chico where she attended school. In May of 1935, she married Aniseto Lucero in Anton Chico. They lived in Pueblo, Colo., for several years before returning to New Mexico and settling in Portales in 1955. She spent the majority of her life as a homemaker and had been involved with Senior Citizens.

Family members said she enjoyed ceramics, sewing, crocheting and making blankets.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; Manuel and Bonifacio Lucero; a daughter, Helen Quintana; and by her husband, Aniseto Lucero, who died in 1998.

Survivors include her sons, Jose Herminio Lucero of Portales, Adolpho Lucero (and his wife Angela) of Guymon, Okla. and David Lucero (Stella) of Portales; a son-in-law, Luis Quintana of Whiteface, Texas; daughters, Elisa Montoya (Tino) of Portales and Mary Ann Pena (Frank) of Portales; 23 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Abelino and Petrolino Lucero, both of Portales; and sisters, Emma Rodriquez, Alicia Lucero and Amelia Amaro, all of Portales, and Carmen Graston and Elvira Castillo, both of Pueblo, Colo.
Rev. Tobin Hitt will be the Celebrant
Burial will take place in Portales Cemetery.

Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. today at St. Helen Catholic Church.

Serving as pallbearers will be Fabian Quintana, Mario Lucero, Ernesto Pena, Mark Montoya, David Lucero, Jr., and Joel Montoya.
