Senior guard Drew Perez scored 25 points and Logan went on a 17-0 run in the fourth quarter Saturday night to beat Texico 48-34 at Greyhound Arena and capture its first EPAC Tournament boys championship.
Trailing 14-12 at halftime, the Longhorns (10-3) outscored the two-time defending tournament champion Wolverines 36-20 in the final two periods.
After a seesaw third period, Texico (8-6) scored the first basket of the fourth quarter to pull to 29-27, but didn’t score again until just over two minutes remained as the Longhorns opened a 19-point cushion.
During that stretch, Perez went 4-for-6 from the free throw line, including the completion of a four-point play after one of his four 3-pointers.
Senior post Josh Abercrombie gave Logan a solid 1-2 punch, scoring 16 points.
Texico’s leading scorer was senior post Aaron Vaughan with 11 points.
Fort Sumner 63, Dora 61 (3rd place) — Senior Derek Dimitroff capped a seesaw game with a driving bank shot from the lane as time expired to give the Foxes (7-3) the victory.
Dora (10-5) led by nine points early in the fourth quarter before Fort Sumner rallied. The Foxes sank 13-of-16 free throws in the final period, including 8-of-10 by Dimitroff, to 8-of-14 for the Coyotes.
Dimitroff led Fort Sumner’s balanced attack with 14 points, one of four Foxes in double figures. J.R. Gonzales scored 15 points and Tyler Wilhoit 14 for the Coyotes.
