Portales High seniors Morgan Hill and Megan Kabrick were first-team selections to the Associated Press Class 3A girls all-state basketball team, announced Saturday.
Hill and Kabrick led the Lady Rams to their third state title in four years last month as Portales, seeded second, routed top-seeded Socorro 58-35 in the championship game at The Pit on the campus of the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque.
It was the Lady Rams’ fourth title in sixth years and sixth consecutive appearance in the finals.
Junior Brianna Hernandez, who scored 19 points in a 50-48 quarterfinal win over Thoreau and added 13 in the championship game win, was a second-team selection in 3A.
The Portales boys had one player on the AP all-state list — senior guard Jerrod Long. The transfer from Floyd was selected to the 3A second team.
One area player earned all-state honors — Elida senior Kodi Armitage was chosen to the Class 1A girls first team.
Armitage led the Lady Tigers to a 25-3 record in 2005-06 and a berth in the 1A state semifinals, where they lost to Tatum 55-36.
