Milton Eady Wakefield, 87, of Roswell, died Friday, June 23, 2006.
He was born July 9, 1918 in Mexia, Texas, to Grady and Blanche Wakefield.
He was raised in Portales. He graduated from Portales High School, Amarillo Barber College and attended Eastern New Mexico University. He married Otero Pate on April 29, 1938. After serving in the Army in World War II, he worked as a barber at Walker Air Force Base and the NCO Club. When Walker Air Force Base closed, he bought The Rock Barber Shop and ran it until retirement.
Family members said his hobby was fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Elneita W. Gray and Betty W. Thompson.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Jane Wakefield Darnell, Sandra Payne (and husband, Doug), Diana Luck (Bill) and Margaret Teague; nine grandchildren, Rynnea Wright (Randall), Pride Haragan (Joel); Kendra Riggs (Jason), Valerie Kochis (David), Brian Luck (Shelby), Shawn Madden (Amanda), Jeff Teague, Todd Payne and Ty Payne (Amanda); 14 grandchidren, Kandis and Erynn Wright, Storrie Weeks, Hannah and Micah Haragan, Hailey and Lexie Riggs, Brittiany and Melissa Kochis, Addycen Luck, Tatum and Harrison Madden and Bradley and Hayley Payne; numerous nieces and nephews and Dorothea Devlin-Stone.
Associate pastor Dare Steven of First United Methodist Church will officiate services.
Cremation will take place.
Memorial may be made in his name to Cowboy Bell Scholarship fund at First United Methodist Church.
