Waterparks are a keen and cool way to spend a day’s vacation in the sizzling summer. There are three waterparks reachable for a day trip from Portales and Clovis: White’s City Resort in Carlsbad, Splash Amarillo and Texas Water Rampage in Lubbock.
The shaded park includes many water slides, a lazy river, wave pool and a children’s activity area. Food, games and prizes are also available at the park.
Splash Amarillo is open noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
Age 3 and under: Free
Half-day (after 3 p.m.): $9
Location: 1415 Sunrise Drive. From Portales go to Clovis and get on N.M. 60. Turn North on Interstate 27. Turn East on Interstate 40 in Amarillo. The park is located between Exit 73 and Exit 74.

Texas Water Rampage
The park boasts a massive tidal-wave pool, an assortment of slides and “Dolphin Cove” with soft slides for children and other aquatic activities. Volleyball nets, horseshoe pitching areas and picnic tables are open to all guests. Free parking is available for visitors to the park.
The park is open noon to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Sunday.

Location: 6602 Brownfield Highway and Spur 327 in Lubbock. From Portales and Clovis take U.S. 84 to Lubbock. Turn right onto N. Frankford Avenue and continue until taking a right at Loop 289. Take Loop 289 west and exit on Brownfield Highway. Travel about one and a half miles to the park.

White’s City Resort in Carlsbad
This is a vacation resort located next to Carlsbad Caverns. Guests staying at the hotel are close to a variety of things including giftshops, museums, an arcade and New Mexico’s only resort waterpark. The park includes slides, a pirate ship for children to explore and a splash pool for all ages.
The resort is open all summer season.

Location: From Portales take N.M. 70 to Roswell, turn on N.M. 285 to Carlsbad. In Carlsbad turn right on N.M. 62/180. The park is adjacent to Carlsbad Caverns.
