Day Trip: Parks can help make fun finale for summer

With summer winding down, families are looking to squeeze that last little bit of fun from summer. A quick way to do that on a day trip would be a visit to an area amusement park.

Casel-Land Fun Center
Located on the outskirts of Clovis, Casel-Land Fun Center includes a go-cart track, 18-hole miniature golf course, batting cages, water bumper boats and a paintball arena, according to owner, Kelly Caselman.

Go-carts: $5 driver, $1 passenger
Batting cage: $1 for 20 pitches
Golf: $5 adults, $4 children, free, under age of 3
Bumper boats: $4 driver, $1 passenger
Paintball: $15.
Directions: Park is located at the intersection of NM 467 and U.S. 60/84.

Hours of operation
Sunday-Thursday: noon to 11 p.m.
Friday-Saturday: noon to midnight

Joyland Amusement Park
Located inside Lubbock’s Mackenzie Park, Joyland offers limitless access to more than 30 rides, according to the park’s Web site.

Weekends: $15.50 per person
Weeknights: $11.50 per person
General admission (entrance only): $4

Weekends: 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Weeknights: 7 p.m to 10 p.m.
In effect until Aug. 12

Directions: Take U.S. 84 to Lubbock. Go east on State Loop 289, then south on I-27. Take Exit 5.

Wonderland Park
Wonderland Park offers four roller coasters, six water rides and a myriad of attractions, including a miniature golf course and arcade. Wonderland is located inside Thompson Park, which also includes a small zoo, a 36-hole golf course, lake and picnic area, according to Sharon Goforth, a Wonderland employee.

Children under 42 inches: $14.95
Adults: $18.95
Hours of operation (CDT)
Weekends: 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Weeknights: 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Directions: Take U.S. 60 east in Texico for 81 miles to Amarillo. The road becomes I-27 North and then U.S. 287 North. Thompson Park is located on left side of the road.
