What: Federal officials from the Office of Economic Development will meet with local officials.
When: Today at 9 a.m. in the Clovis City Hall, 321 N. Connelly St.
Why: The meeting is being held to discuss potential growth issues with the new mission at Cannon Air Force Base, officials said.
“Fundamentally, this is the next step in an organizational process so we can bring a great deal of efficiency to the community’s response to a Cannon expansion,” Clovis Mayor David Lansford said.
“Our primary agenda,” he said, “is to hear from the Office of Economic Adjustment, who will outline what their role will be as a far as being an assisting agent as we look at an expanding military operation.”
The Department of Defense reassigned the 16th Special Ops Wing to Cannon in June. Some officials believe the base population of more than 4,000 military and civilian personal could growth by as much as a third.
