Senior Megan Dozier scored in the first minute and junior Stephanie Sanchez provided solid play in goal, especially late, as the Eastern New Mexico University women’s soccer team held off Dixie State 2-1 on Thursday at the ENMU pitch.
Dozier dribbled around several Rebels defenders to score with only 32 seconds gone and give the Zias (6-5) a lead they would not relinquish.
Meantime, junior midfielder Nicole Bregler made it 2-0 when she scored on a header in the 15th minue off an assist from senior forward Kara Henderson.
Meantime, the Utah-based Rebels — competing at the Division II level after moving up from the junior college ranks — peppered the ENMU net with eight shots on goal in the second half. They finally broke through with just under 29 minutes left when Nicolette Trickney beat Sanchez on a through pass from Robyn Wall.
The Zias were playing at home for the first time since opening the season with a 3-1 homestand in late August.
Dixie (5-4-1) will play at West Texas A&M on Saturday on the back leg of their swing thorugh the area.
