Junior forward Kyle Snyder scored 12 points and had team-highs of 17 rebounds and four assists Saturday night to lead Washburn (Kan.) past Eastern New Mexico University’s men 63-55 in the third-place game of the Harry Miller/ENMU Shootout at Greyhound Arena.
Senior forward Frank Phifer scored 17 points and sophomore forward Paul Byers added 15 for the Ichabods (2-1), who were coming off an overtime loss to Kansas rival Fort Hays State in Friday’s semifinal round.
ENMU, which lost to Western State 66-64 on Friday, got 16 points from senior point guard Tristan Largent and 14 from junior guard Justin Redman-Trotter.
The Greyhounds (0-2) overcame a 29-23 halftime deficit to lead by three points early in the second half, but they couldn’t build on it and the Ichabods regained control down the stretch. Washburn’s biggest lead was 14 points with just under five minutes left.
Led by Snyder, the Ichabods dominated the Hounds on the boards 48-24.
In the championship game, Fort Hays (3-0) defeated Western State 62-57 behind 17 points and nine rebounds from senior forward Jeff Pruitt.
Freshman guard Josh Kollasch scored 13 points for the Mountaineers (1-1), while junior guard Carleton Goggins added 12.
