Need more organization in your life but don’t know where to start?
Why not your home?
Help is now available in the area in the form of a professional organizing company called All Things Organized The fledgling business specializes in helping clients to organize their homes.
A member of the National Association of Professional Organizers and the Professional Organizers of New Mexico, Portales resident and owner Lynn Visage has launched the company after retiring from 27 years of teaching special education students.
“It’s a relatively young new field. Nationwide, organizing has become a new area of business,” said Visage of choosing her new profession.
Starting a new business, plus introducing a new concept to the area is challenging. Visage feels that with the younger generation leaning towards being more organized and excited about this type of service, she will be able to find a niche for her business in the community, she said.
Continually organizing her home to accommodate her family’s needs and drawing on many years of experience helping family and friends organize their things have helped her better understand that a lot of emotion can be invested in personal belongings, Visage said.
“Organizing is an emotional thing. It is hard to part with items. Psychologically it’s uplifting and makes you feel good (to be organized),” Visage said.
Most clients have two types of items, meaningful memorabilia and stuff. Her goal is to help clients re-evaluate what category these items fall in and how to better manage and organize the items.
“You do need to evaluate and decide — what do I really use,” Visage said.
Keeping essential items where they can be easily accessible is a step in maintaining organization. Another thing that can be done is to keep and maintain a central area for items. For example, a mail center with all necessary supplies can help cut down on having items scattered in various places throughout the home, she said.
“Keep it where you need it,” Visage said.
With support from fellow members of Professional Organizers of New Mexico, Visage has an added benefit and outlet to utilize for ideas and troubleshooting. The organization allows for networking between members that are in New Mexico, said Miriam Ortiz Y Pino, fellow Professional Organizers of New Mexico member and owner of More Than Organized.
“She (Lynn) has some great ideas on networking and marketing herself. It’s a service many people can benefit from,” Ortiz Y Pino said.
