Floyd girls fifth at state

ALBUQUERQUE — Sophomore Kelsi Gray placed in two individual events and the Floyd girls scored in three relays on Saturday as the Lady Broncos scored 26 points and tied Cliff for fifth place in the Class 1A state track meet at the University of New Mexico.

Gray was third in long jump (15-9 1/2) and fourth in the 100 meters (13.69 seconds), while Floyd came in third in the 400 relay (54.26), fouorth in the 800 relay (1:57.28) and sixth in the 1,600 medley relay (4:52.76). Other Lady Broncos points on Saturday came on a fifth-place showing by freshman Elena Mendoza in the 800 in a time of 2:39.91.

Fort Sumner took the team title, scoring 86 points to upend favored two-time defending champion Cimarron, which had 80 points.
Elida’s girls scored two points to finish in a four-way tie for 20th, coming on sixth-place performances by freshmen Alexis Orcutt in the 100 hurdles (18.34 seconds) and Shanna Anthony in shot put (30-5 1/2).

The only boys points scored by area schools were Floyd freshman Jesus Davalos, who was fourth in the 200 meters (23.97 seconds) and sixth in the 100 meters (11.86).

Floyd’s five points placed the Broncos 18th in the meet. Carrizozo ran away with team honors, scoring 89 points to 56 for Hagerman, 55 1/2 for Fort Sumner and 51 for Gallup Catholic.
