PNT Staff Report
Portales Police Department officers responded to a call of shots fired near Lindsey Park at 4 a.m. Sunday and found two victims suffering from injuries received in a beating.
According to Lonnie Berry of the PPD, the victims, one male and one female, were transported by ambulance to Roosevelt General Hospital. The female was admitted to RGH and later released. The male victim was transported to a Lubbock hospital in critical but stable condition.
Berry said neither victim had been shot but instead had been beaten, possibly with a baseball bat. He said a search around the park didn’t turn up shell casings.
“We’re still putting the case together and expect to do some more interviews today (Monday),” Berry said.
Berry declined to elaborate on what triggered the beatings. He said Monday afternoon no arrests had been made in the case.
