Sophomore midfielder Kimberly Anaya scored one goal and set up a game-winning header by senior defender Marcela Garcia in the second overtime on Sunday, giving Eastern New Mexico’s women a 2-1 victory over St. Mary’s at the ENMU soccer pitch.

It marked ENMU’s first win over the Rattlers in three all-time meetings. St. Mary’s (2-1) had shut the Zias out in the previous matchups, and came into Sunday’s match with two shutout wins this season.

Anaya broke a scoreless tie just over 32 minutes into the match, gaining control of a bouncing loose ball and finding the left side of the net from about 25 yards out. St. Mary’s tied the score in the 62nd minute when junior forward Amanda McMullen found freshman forward Lauren Scally with a crossing pass in front of the Eastern net.

The Rattlers nearly won in the first overtime on an indirect free kick, but were called for offsides and the goal was disallowed.

Just over five minutes into the second OT, the Zias were awarded a corner kick and Anaya found Garcia in front for her second career goal.

Senior Stephanie Sanchez made nine saves in net for the Zias, notching her 21st career victory.
ENMU returns to action with a 3 p.m. home match on Friday against College of the Southwest.
