Job: Co-owner of the Dawg Houze sports bar

Time on the Job: The Dawg Houze officially opened Aug. 31.
Background: Before opening the business, Heflin was a college student, majoring in special education and has also worked in construction.

Q. Describe what your job entails?
A. Checking IDs and pushing beer. Ordering, selling. I’m basically everything in the corporation.

Q. What is a typical day on the job like for you?
A. My wife opens at 8 a.m., I get here about 9 a.m., and work until 12:30 a.m. It’s important that I’m down here that many hours a day.

Q. Why did you choose this profession?
A. I just thought it would be a fun opportunity and I’ve always liked the thought of working for myself and having a family business.

Q. What type of training/schooling do you need for your job?
A. You have to have your Professional Alcohol Servers Education license and you have to memorize a lot of different products.

Q. What do you enjoy most about your job?
A. Working for myself and this is the easiest job I’ve had where the people are nice and happy when they come in.
