ACT, SAT tests scheduled
Seniors interested in attending a four-year university after graduation must take a college entrance exam, either the ACT or the SAT. The next ACT will be given on Dec. 8. Deadline to register is Friday. The next SAT will be given on Dec. 1. Deadline to register is Tuesday.
Seniors should also be applying to the colleges of their choice this month as well as obtaining scholarship information.
BK scholarships offered
Burger King Restaurants is offering the 2008 Burger King Scholars Program to this year’s high school seniors. The Burger King Scholars Program is offering a $1000 scholarship to all eligible applicants.
Applicants must be high school seniors who maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher, work part-time an average of 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year, actively involved in community service activities, demonstrate financial need, and plan to enroll in accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school by fall of the application year.
Interested students can apply on line at www.bk.com/scholars.
Available scholarships are posted on the Portales Municipal Schools Web site in the schools section under Portales High School, Counselors Corner. Other information is also located in the Counselors Corner section of PHS.

NMSU admissions on campus
Admission specialist Susan Martin of New Mexico State University will be on campus Friday to visit with junior and senior students interested in attending NMSU in the fall of 2008. Interested students can sign up in the counseling and guidance office no later than Thursday.
Comcast offers scholarships
The Comcast Cable Foundation is offering the Comcast Leaders & Achievers Scholarship Program to interested high school seniors planning to attend a college or university in fall 2008. Students can obtain more information about this scholarship by visiting the counseling and guidance office.
