• Portales residents contributed 1,700 pounds of cheese, 1,500 pounds of flour and several hundred pounds of Portales peanuts to the “Navajo Brotherhood Caravan,” a charity drive for the Navajo reservation near Gallup.
• The Furr Food Store was advertising the opening of its new store at 422 E. State St. in Portales.
• The Sunset Cafe advertised a club steak with french fries or a complete chicken dinner for 75 cents.
