Friends of Cannon started
A new program called Friends of Cannon has been created by Col. Timothy Leahy, commander of the 27th Special Operations Wing at Cannon Air Force Base. The program will create a social event open to the community once a month, according to a press release from the city of Portales. The first event is this Friday.

The first Friday of each month surrounding communities, along with military personnel are invited to bring their families from 5-8 p.m. for a Dutch-treat meal at the Landing at CAFB. Leahy and his staff will give the community updated information and answer questions and community members will be able to announce events as well.

To participate, community members must fill out a form which can be found at the Cannon Visitor Center of the Portales City Hall. A background check to comply with base security measures will be done and once that is completed an individual will be added to a permanent list for the event.

Information: Nicole Wilkening, city hall, 356-6662, ext 24.
