Library Friends to meet
Heather Christensen, youth services librarian for the Portales Public Library, will present the program at the next regular meeting of the Friends of the Portales Public Library at noon on Thursday in the meeting room at the library, 218 South Avenue B.

Christensen will be reporting on a number of efforts under way at the library to attract and maintain teen and pre-teen readers, including formation of a teen advisory board, a recent writing workshop and an upcoming writing contest.

The brown bag lunch meeting will also include election of officers for the upcoming year and discussion of other business. Visitors are welcome.

Domenici seeks summer interns
U.S. Senator Pete Domenici announced that his Washington D.C. office is now accepting applications from qualified students for its summer 2008 internship program, according to a news release.

The summer internship program will take place in two six-week sessions, the first running from May to July, and the second from July to August. Priority is given to applicants who are either New Mexico residents or attending school in the state. Applications must be postmarked by March 3.

Interns will gain first-hand experience in all parts of Domenici’s office including the constituent services, legislative and communication portions. Applications are available on Domenici’s Web site and can be accessed at http://www.domenici.senate.gov in the “Student’s Corner” section. Eligible applicants must have completed at least one year of study at a higher learning institution. Students from all majors, including those outside of history/political science, are encouraged to apply.
