There were 21 participants in the Southeast New Mexico Music Educators Associations Solo & Ensemble the weekend of Feb. 2-3. Of those, 16 students earned a Superior rating and five earned an Excellent rating. The participants were Amanda Rutland, Kim Hilliard, Ryan Wood, Seth Christensen, Keisha Christensen, Sawyer May, James Golden, Walker Partin, Timothy Brooks, Ashley Bonifant, Christian Quigley, David Harberts, Sam Rice, and Devany Stone.
ACT/SAT tests slated
Seniors interested in attending a four-year university after graduation must take a college entrance exam, either the ACT or the SAT. The next ACT will be given on April 12. Deadline to register is March 7. The next SAT will be given on March 1. Deadline to register was Jan. 29. Students can pick-up registration packets at the counseling and guidance office or register online at www.actstudent.org and www.collegeboard.com. Students can qualify for an ACT fee waiver if they meet certain criteria. Visit the guidance office for more information.
Seniors should also be applying to the colleges of their choice this month as well as obtaining scholarship information.
First Financial Credit Union of New Mexico is awarding twelve $1,200 scholarships ($600 per semester). Six scholarships go to graduating high school seniors, and six go to past recipients to further their education.
Applicants must attend a New Mexico school of higher learning, and applicant or parent must be a member of the credit union. For more information and an application, log on to www.ffnm.org or visit the guidance office. Scholarship applications are due March 31.
