KINGSVILLE, Texas — Texas A&M-Kingsville got run-scoring singles from Cassie Anderson and Meisha Patterson in the bottom of the third, and pitchers Jessika Cantu and Morgan Seals made the lead stand up in a 2-1 Lone Star Conference South Division softball victory Friday over Eastern New Mexico University.

The Javelinas (9-10, 2-0 South) cruised to a 10-0 win in the opener. The teams complete their series with a single game today.

Kingsville’s Courtney Rigamonti (5-7) pitched a five-inning shutout in the opener, allowing five hits. The Javelinas roughed up ENMU junior Natalie Woodside (5-5) for 10 runs — five earned — and six hits, with Javs catcher Julia Canales driving in four runs with three singles.

The Zias threatened to break up the shutout in the fifth, loading the bases with one out, but Rigamonti got Haley Hays to hit into a pitcher-to-home fielder’s choice before Alex Mayo Otis flied to left on a 3-2 pitch.

In the nightcap, ENMU (13-10, 0-2) finally got on the board in the fifth when Tawna Lei Tagaloa walked and pinch-runner Sarah Spencer came around on two infield outs and a Kingsville error.

Sophomore Kristen Cruickshank (5-4) took the tough-luck loss for the Zias, throwing a complete-game four-hitter. Seals worked the sixth and seventh for her first save, leaving the tying run at third in the seventh.
