Snowfall is expected to continue over the region throughout the day Thursday with accumulations of between 3 and 5 inches possible in some areas, according to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque.
The weather advisory is in effect until 6 p.m.
In the Clovis area, schools started on time but in outlying areas there were delays and cancellations. House schools and Cannon Air Force Base reported on a two-hour delay and Fort Sumner schools canceled classes.
Recent warm weather could cause snow to melt and re-freeze, creating icy and slick driving conditions, according to the National Weather Service.
By mid-morning Thursday there had not been any weather-related vehicle crashes in the Clovis area, according to Clovis Police Dispatch logs and the Curry County Sheriff’s office.
The affected area is projected to stretch through the southeastern plains from Roswell to Clovis and Portales, the National Weather Service said.
