Highway commission to meet here
The New Mexico Department of Transportation Commission will meet at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Zia Room of Eastern New Mexico University’s Campus Union Building.

It is the commission’s regular meeting and is open to the public. The agenda will also include a presentation by District 2 Engineer Gary Shubert, Portales Mayor Orlando Ortega Jr. and Roosevelt County Commission Chairman David Sanders.

Wild horse and burro adoption set
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management will hold a wild horse and burro adoption Thursday through Saturday in Artesia at the Eddy County Horse Council arena. The event will include 70 animals.

Preview is 4-6 p.m. Thursday, with gates opening at 8 a.m. Friday and adoptions beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing until 6 p.m. On Saturday, adoptions are from 8 a.m. to noon.

Adoption fee is $125 and competitive bidding will be held on animals with more than one person interested.
