United Daughtersof the Confederacy
The Ellen W. Jones Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy met for a luncheon for its May meeting. The program committee, with Jan Ross and Janelle Foster, served as hostesses.
Debi Lee, Nicole Wilkening and Mayor Orlando Ortega were guests. Ortega talked to the group about future projects.
Jane Millette gave the invocation. Jane Hilliard and Ross led the ritualistic opening. Peg Kline read correspondence. An invitation was read from the Sons of the Confederacy to a dedication at Glorieta on Aug. 2. Nena Stratton gave the treasurer’s report.
Articles and photos about pledge and salutes to the flag have been sent to the UDC magazine. By-law changes were discussed.
New officers for 2008-2010 were installed: President Janelle Foster, first vice president Jan Ross, second vice president Vicky Stratton, third vice president Robbie Wicker, recording secretary Della Kobernick, corresponding secretary Peg Kline, treasurer Jane Millette, registrar Margaret Smith, historian Bess Jones, recorder of crosses Jane Hilliard, parliamentarian Jane Hilliard.
The annual Memorial Day service, open to the public, will be held at the UDC Circle at 9 a.m. May 26.
