John R. Madden has been named president of Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell, according to a press release from ENMU.
Madden, of Tucson, Ariz. will succeed Judy Armstrong who is retiring from the position. Madden’s start date is Aug. 18.
A presidential search committee was formed in mid-April to review applications, interview candidates, and forward recommendations to ENMU President Steven Gamble for his final selection.
“I think we are very fortunate to employ a person with Dr. Madden’s leadership and management skills,” said Gamble. “We had a very strong pool of candidates from which to choose and Dr. Madden rose to the top.”
“I’m really excited about coming to Roswell,” said Madden. “Roswell is a great place and the college is a great place to work. The hospitality extended to me and my wife, Carol, during our visit was just wonderful.”
Since 2000, Madden has been serving as dean of instruction of the Desert Vista Campus of Pima Community College in Tucson. He obtained his doctoral degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Albany and his master’s degree in education from Western Michigan University, where he also received his bachelor’s degree in history, according to the release.
Madden has worked in higher education for more than 20 years, serving as a faculty member, a director, a department chair, and as dean of instruction for various colleges in Arizona and California.
