Third-year Portales Ram head football coach Andy Correll was pleased with his team’s performance Friday in a scrimmage against Hatch Valley in Alamogordo.
The Ram first-team offense scored three touchdowns against Hatch’s one score, and the Ram second-team added two more touchdowns.
“Our first offensive series went pretty smooth,” Correll said. “The offense we’re running is all about completions and selling the run when we need to.”
The Rams open up Friday night at Robertson, but the coaching staff will be scouting a Robertson scrimmage today in Albuquerque.
The Portales Lady Ram soccer team began it’s second season over the weekend at the annual Artesia soccer tournament with a record of 2-1 against area junior varsity teams.
The Lady Rams opened the tournament Friday with a 4-0 shutout of the Robertson J.V. followed by a 3-0 loss against the Hobbs J.V. Friday night.
In their lone game on Saturday, the Portales girls edged out the Carlsbad junior varsity girls 4-3
in a shootout.
“We did well,” Portales girls head coach Traci Sievers said. “We were looking to score, and we were moving the ball around well.”
Junior Marissa Best led the Lady Rams with a total of 3 goals over the two days. Kaitlin Garrett, Veronica Ayala, Jenna Sievers and Alex Ledbetter also scored in the tournament.
The Lady Rams travel to a Roswell tournament next weekend.
