President Bush signed into law Tuesday a military spending bill that authorizes $726 million in construction projects and new aircraft for Cannon Air Force Base, according to a press release from Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M.
The measure would permit $630 billion in spending for national defense programs in 2009, including $70 billion for operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. The measure also authorizes a 3.9 percent increase in military pay.
The bill also authorizes about $18.8 million for a maintenance hangar and $8.3 million for a CV-22 training facility at Cannon Air Force Base, according to the release.
In addition to the construction projects, the bill authorizes $409 million for six CV-22 Osprey Tilt Rotor Craft and $306 million for four MC-130J transport aircraft that will be stationed at Cannon, according to Bingaman spokeswoman Jude McCartin.
